Bingham Healthcare is pleased to introduce Heather Pugmire, MD, OB/GYN, as part of the Bingham Memorial Women’s Center.

In addition to helping women through pregnancy, labor and delivery, Dr. Pugmire enjoys helping women with issues such as menstrual irregularities and urinary incontinence. She is currently using the da Vinci Surgical System for general gynecologic surgeries, hysterectomies and ovary removal for benign conditions.

Since she was in high school, Dr. Pugmire has had a desire to serve people through the science of medicine. “In high school I read an article about a surgeon who went to Africa and fixed thousands of children’s clef palates,” she says. “I thought that developing a skill that can so profoundly affect the happiness and well-being of others is something I would like to pursue.”

Dr. Pugmire is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. From early on in medical school, she knew OB/GYN was a field she would enjoy. “I always thought delivering babies would be so great,” says Dr. Pugmire. “But I never realized how much I would enjoy the other areas of this specialty, especially surgery. Working with your hands to fix something is very rewarding.”

“My philosophy is that a doctor is a type of teacher,” she says. “I try to help women understand their bodies, disease processes, the risks and benefits of therapies to help them figure out the best way to get and stay healthy.”

In her spare time, Dr. Pugmire enjoys spending time with her husband and children. Her family loves living in eastern Idaho with all of its outdoor opportunities like camping, hiking and skiing. She also enjoys reading and music.

• Received her undergraduate degree in exercise science from Brigham Young University
• Graduated from the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska

Dr. Nicholas Packer, MD, FACOG, is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with training and experience in a broad range of women’s health services, including high- and low-risk obstetrics, gynecologic surgery, and infertility care.

Originally from Blackfoot, Idaho, Dr. Packer has spent his career caring for women in rural and underserved areas throughout the Southeast and Southern Idaho. He is excited to join Grove Creek Women’s Health to provide pregnancy care. He feels it is important to tailor the pregnancy experience to the individual, and foster positive, collaborative communication.

Beyond the clinic, Dr. Packer is active in healthcare leadership and community service. He has served as Chief of Medical Staff at Bear Lake Memorial Hospital and contributed to hospital committees focused on patient satisfaction, IT systems, and electronic health record implementation. In all his roles, Dr. Packer is known for his thoughtful communication, collaborative approach, and dedication to advancing the quality of women’s healthcare.

When he’s not in the clinic or operating room, Dr. Packer enjoys spending time with his family, coaching youth in sports, serving in his church, and enjoying the outdoors.

Professional Credentials

Dr. Packer earned his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine after completing a degree at Brigham Young University–Idaho. He completed his OB/GYN residency at York Hospital in Pennsylvania, where he served as Chief Resident and earned recognition for excellence in minimally invasive surgery.

Dr. Shannon Sutherland, D.O., FACOG, is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist and also board certified in obesity medicine. She is passionate about empowering women through every stage of life—from adolescence to motherhood to menopause—by providing compassionate, comprehensive, and individualized care.

Dr. Sutherland offers a full scope of obstetric services, including prenatal care, labor and delivery. She is excited to be a part of the Grove Creek team and work together with her colleagues in order to provide compassionate, collaborative care throughout every stage of motherhood.

Dr. Sutherland earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, West Virginia, where she graduated with honors in the top ten percent of her class. She completed her internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Saint Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio, where she served as Chief Resident. She is certified in minimally invasive robotic surgery and trained in the DaVinci Surgical System.

Before joining Bingham, Dr. Sutherland practiced at Wood County Hospital and McLaren St. Luke’s Hospital in Ohio. She also served as an associate professor and residency trainer for family practice and OB/GYN residents, sharing her passion for education and women’s health with future physicians.

Dr. Taras Kindrat, obstetrician and gynecologist, comes from a long line of physicians, with both his father and grandfather dedicated to the medical profession. His father, an OB-GYN, left a lasting impression on him, inspiring him to follow in his footsteps. As Dr. Kindrat often says, “Babies wake you up, and they come unpredictably, but you have a Birthday every day.” His passion for obstetrics stems from the unpredictability and joy of bringing new life into the world.

As a father of four daughters—Oxana, Sophia, Eva, and Anna—Dr. Kindrat attributes his profession to his growing family, calling them the “side effects” of his work.

Dr. Kindrat’s journey brought him to Idaho in 2014, where he was initially assigned a one-year locum coverage in Sandpoint. Though it was far from his family at the time, he fell in love with the state. After practicing in various parts of the country, including 13 years in New York and 14 years in Western Washington, Dr. Kindrat found that Idaho represented what he calls “true America”—a place with hardworking, sincere, and friendly people.

Aside from his medical practice, Dr. Kindrat is drawn to Idaho’s picturesque landscapes, outdoor activities, and the warmth of its people, making it a place he’s proud to call home.

We are pleased to introduce you to Shandra Averett, certified family nurse practitioner (FNP, CNM). She brings a tremendous amount of knowledge to our team as she has been working in the medical field for more than 20 years.

Shandra’s primary focus is women’s health, and she has experience in delivering quality patient care to obstetrics and gynecological patients. She assesses and evaluates prenatal, postnatal, and post op patients. She performs women’s annual wellness exams and offers basic primary care.

She specializes in a variety of birth control solutions, including IUDs and Nexplanons. She also evaluates abnormal vaginal bleeding, discharge, or pain, as well as urinary incontinence treatments. In addition, she helps women with menopause complaints and provides hormone replacement therapy and basic infertility testing and consultation.

We are pleased to introduce Gary M. Ullery, DO, an internal medicine specialist and pediatrician.

Dr. Ullery spent the first 16 years of his career working as a computer programmer, technical analyst, and software engineer and developer. When one of his five children was diagnosed with Noonan syndrome, and required a lot of care early on, Dr. Ullery knew that medicine was his calling.

For children, teenagers, and adults, he offers a full range of care—from annual check-ups, immunizations, and sports physicals to preventative care and diagnosing and treating chronic conditions such as type 1 diabetes in kids. In addition, he is the only pediatrician in Blackfoot and he looks forward to providing the type of specialized care children require.

When Dr. Ullery is not practicing medicine, he spends time with his wife and their five children. He enjoys weight lifting, playing the piano, and participating in the Boy Scouts as a merit badge counselor.

We are pleased to introduce Shad Bateman, board-certified family medicine specialist. He practices family medicine with a focus on patient wellness and prevention.

Dr. Bateman chose to specialize in family medicine because it gives him the opportunity to work with patients of all ages—from newborns, children, and teens to adults and the elderly.

He provides annual wellness exams, physicals, preventative and therapeutic care services, and the management of diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. His patients describe him as friendly, easy to talk to, and someone who genuinely cares about their well-being.

When he is not practicing medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family, camping, golfing, hunting, and fishing.

We are pleased to welcome Sye Speth, DO, board-certified family medicine specialist, to our medical staff.

Dr. Speth provides care for the physical, mental, and emotional health of an entire family from newborns to older adults.

In addition, he has training to perform minor procedures such as vasectomies, colposcopies, newborn circumcisions, and skin lesion removals. Being an osteopathic physician, he has expertise in manipulative therapy to help improve physical function and decrease pain.

He is also trained in addiction medicine and works with his patients in an interactive manner to help achieve their health goals for both longevity and better quality of life.

Bingham Healthcare is pleased to introduce Brian Carrigan, MD, a family medicine practitioner.

Dr. Carrigan is a board certified physician and has been practicing Family Medicine for over 20 years. He recognizes his patient’s time is extremely important, which is why his office reserves time each day for urgent same day appointments.

Dr. Carrigan and his wife are the parents of 2 children. He enjoys backpacking, fishing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, wildlife photography, and canoeing.

He is welcoming new patients. His office is located inside the Bingham Memorial Medical Plaza at 98 Poplar Street in Blackfoot.
